Another example of government by press release

Jack_conway_2 Governor Steve Beshear and Atty. Gen. Jack Conway held a little press event in Louisville this morning focusing on gas prices.  The CJ has a story posted about it.  Anyway, the gov says he's going to get to the bottom of things and find out why prices in Louisville are higher than elsewhere in Kentucky.

He's mad about it, yatta, yatta. . . .  WELL, as it turns out, prices are higher in Louisville because Louisville is in a federal EPA nonattainment zone and the fuel sold inside that zone is reformulated to meet stricter standards for emissions.  NOW, guess who can suspend or stop the higher reformulated gas from being required in Louisville--you guessed it--the governor himself.

SO, he's got this big investigation, along with the AG with the big hair, vowing to get to the bottom of it--when it comes back to him!  He could issue an executive order waiving the reformulation requirements.  Folks in the Louisville metro can either pay more and have lower emissions, which helps the environmental non-attainment situation or they can pay less and pollute more--it's the governor's choice!

Is the governor that clueless?  Perhaps the CJ could call the EPA or do some quick research on this issue online and probably find all of this information in 5-10 minutes.  They wouldn't have to break a sweat and get the story. But, hey, that might put their Golden Boy in a bad light.

Supposing Beshear doesn't issue the executive order and gas prices in Louisville stay artificially high, then AG may well have to indict the governor for price gouging!

The real issues is: Who is the bigger idiot? Conway or Beshear. Clueless doesn't even begin to describe these partisan hacks.

Well Brett, you have hit the nail on the head with this one.

First a little more radio news info.

(WHAS 84 am) Beshear and Conway are quoted as saying the gas price is cheaper as you drive east from Louisville.

They are quoted as saying gas is 30 CENTS cheaper per gallon in Shelbyville and 40 CENTS per gallon cheaper in Frankfort. SO NOT TRUE!

Louisville gas tonight is $4.21, Shelbyville and Frankfort are $3.99.

Louisville is an air quality non attainment county and they use a blend of 10% ethanol in every gallon of gas sold to reduce pollutants.

Louisville used to use MTBE (methyl tertiary butyl ether) as an oxygenate in every gallon until they learned it contaminated the groundwater (MTBE is very soluable in water)and could cause cancer.

For years Louisville has had gasoline costs that were routinely 20 cents a gallon higher than the surrounding counties. This was due totally to the boutique fuels used in Louisville. Louisville either attempted to clean their air or suffer major federal road dollar losses.

I don't know who Beshear and Conway got their information from but they obviously didn't do even the tiniest bit of research. The highly paid non-merits employed by Beshear should have informed him before he went public on the radios and TVS and now he and Conway will have major amounts of egg splattered all over his face.

The entire holdover leadership team at EPPC should know this, such as John Daviess and Mark York.

Why didn't all the people Beshear brought back from previous administrations not clue him in. Could it be because they are incompetent hacks?

I wonder why highly paid non merit Patton/Fletcher traitor holdover/comebackers like Mark York, Jamie Link, Jana Smith, John Daviess, Chuck Knowles, Mike Hancock and many others didn't come forth and save our new Governor the egg on his face embarrassment he will endure in the days to come.

Jack - Please don't waste our tax dollars investigating this non issue. I have saved you the time and effort required to close this.

I wonder if these folks are setting up the new Governor for failure like they did the last one? Or are they just that incompetent?

In reality, know one cares, all they want to do is keep drawing that 6 figure paycheck to set up a good retirement. This is a microcosm of why state government is so f#$%ed up and will NEVER improve.

Flether kept over 60% of Patton people who were previously Jones people, who were previously Collins people and some were even JYB people. You keep the people who don't do shi% but draw a paycheck and don't hire people who really want to move the state forward.

Lets hope Francene doesn't rake you guys over the coals tomorrow morning!!

Our "brokeback" AG should give up and have a pow-wow with Dennis Flemming. Maybe that would cool his jets!

And why does he dye his hair?!!! The guy is almost 40 years old!!!! He looks like a C-list boyband member

He so purty. I'll sell my vote half regular price.

I heard Jack Conway is getting a divorce and moving to California to marry his lover from law school.

It's about time Jack have the right to marry his partner! Jack is an outstanding example for the Gay community in Kentucky! We to fight for our rights!

I agreed with you
