Private polls show a decided edge for former U.S. Marshal John Schickel in Northern Kentucky's District 11 GOP primary to replace State Senator Dick Roeding.
Schickel enjoys key backing from the Republican organizations in Boone, Gallatin and Kenton counties. He faces former State Rep. Charlie Walton in the May 20 primary. With an overwhelming Republican advantage in the district, winner of the primary is considered the odds-on favorite in the November election.
Roeding (R-Lakeside Park), who's completing his 18th year in the Kentucky Senate, is a strong Schickel supporter. Program note: Walton primaried Roeding in 2004, falling 1,000 votes short.
Some Republicans are uncomfortable with Walton's close relationship with the Kentucky Education Association. He's a Boone County high school principal who's against school vouchers and supports the KEA legislative agenda. KEA showed its gratitude with a $1,000 contribution. A recent candidate debate brought out these issues and more.
One notable Walton supporter is Kevin Murphy, a $1,000 donor to Walton for Senate. Murphy lost to U.S. Rep. Geoff Davis (R-KY-4) in the 2004 GOP primary. Davis stalwarts haven't forgotten that one.

Charlie Walton was an ineffective legislator and that is why Roeding trounced him. Walton was consistently rated as one of the worst state representatives and was laughed at by many.

He needs to do something about all that Bill Yung money he's taking. That'll leak out soon enough.

By the way Kevin Murphy is chief legal counsel to Bill Yung. The same Bill Yung that spent $1 million to beat our governor Ernie Fletcher.

I noticed on Project Vote Smart that Charlie Walton recieved a D+ rating from the NRA and supported increases in taxes on a survey!
Throw in the fact that he is in bed with the KEA. This guy calls himself a conservative Republican?
