UPDATE: Board of Education tells Beshear "No thanks"
The Kentucky Board of Education has decided to continue the interview process for a new commissioner, rejecting Governor-elect Beshear's request that they restart the hiring process.
Kudos to the board members who saw through Beshear's transparent political move. The board has opted to interview their four qualified finalists rather than jettison the entire lot and start over.
Let's be honest about this situation. All eleven of the board members are Fletcher appointees. The finalists for the commissioner position the board has selected are people that hold an educational philosophy that is closer to Governor Fletcher's than to Governor-elect Beshear's. Beshear doesn't like the fact that the board is close to selecting someone who may not agree with him on every aspect of educational philosophy.
Rather than try to work with the person the board will ultimately select from these finalists, Beshear wants to scrap the whole process. Given the fact that Kentucky has been without a permanent education commissioner for nearly a year now, doesn't it better serve the public policy interests of our children to select one of these qualified individuals now rather than derail the search for another six months until Beshear can hand-pick the commissioner?
How is this a political move?
It's been CONSERVATIVE FLETCHER SUPPORTERS complaining about the Board for the past several weeks.
Get a grip! Even your own people think this process needs to start over without all the crap.
