Fletcher tells RPK he's building momentum, resources
Kentucky Republicans sounded unified and confident during today's state party executive committee meeting in their Frankfort headquarters.
Governor Ernie Fletcher paid an unannounced visit at the end of the hour-long confab, telling county chairs, party officials and candidates that Republicans have the issues, financial resources and grass-roots network to win in November.
He also noted how the casino issue has tied up his opponent, Steve Beshear, and defined the race.
Fletcher also said the task ahead - winning reelection - won't be easy but reassured the RPK that the campaign is on target to achieve victory.
RNC Chairman Michael Duncan also spoke, reporting on the GOP's improving prospects in the national political environment. Leading Republican presidential candidates now lead the Democrats' front-runner, Hilary Clinton, in national polls, including Gallup's most recent survey.
GOP National Committeewoman Gail Russell and RPK Chairman Steve Robertson spoke, along with Treasurer candidate Melinda Wheeler and Auditor candidate Linda Greenwell.
