Beshear apes Fletcher's 2003 campaign message
Steve Beshear earlier this year took a page out of fellow Democrat Wallace Wilkinson's gubernatorial campaign play book and campaigned in the Democrat primary for casino gambling. It worked, enabling Beshear to avoid a run-off.
In the general election, his strategy appears to be copying Governor Ernie Fletcher's 2003 campaign message of "It's time for a change. Let's clean up Frankfort." Today, Beshear's campaign launched its first ad for the general election phase.
Click here to see Beshear's TV spot. See if you agree his message lacks the edge he needs to avoid the perception that the Beshear campaign is trying to sit on his lead over Fletcher. It's a temptation many candidates fall prey to in pursuing a flawed strategy of playing it safe. In other words, his message lacks depth.
Maybe Beshear's brain trust believes they don't want to offend conservative voters who would otherwise support Fletcher. Certainly, there's little in the way of raw meat for the partisan Democrat crowd who wants to fire up the electric chair and ask questions later.
Whatever the case, Beshear won't have to wait long to see his opponent's message. Fletcher's campaign today announced they'll be up tomorrow with a statewide TV buy.
Here's a sneak peak at Fletcher's message entitled "Steve Beshear's Challenge," posted earlier today on YouTube. Click here to view.

He says clean up Frankfort......what a joke. As long as old what's in it for me politicians keep coming back then nothing will get cleaned up. I mean nothing!
It will be the same as it was with Beshear's own special interests and nothing to do with the younger generation.
Keep the old politicians out and let's get some young new fresh leaders in there.
If Mongiardo was running for governor then maybe.....but not this guy. He will go back and pickup what was there when he was AG.
This is scary folks......

Mongiardo? I have heard from more than one woman that their contact with Mongiardo has left them, well, feeling "creeped out". Let's just say he's heavy on the sexual innuendo. Makes his fondness for really young women all the more concerning.

You're all bleeping Republithugs. And jealous ones at that. If you spent any time around Daniel and Allison, you would know that all the trash talk is just that . . . trash. And, as for the "more than one woman" that felt creeped out around Daniel, what a joke. He is a gentleman and a scholar. Perhaps, your Republican lady friends would feel more comfortable with the Senator from Louisiana and his sexual depravity. Steve and Daniel are going to win in November by at least 57% of the vote over your incumbents. And Richie Farmer, after he posts one of the few wins for the Republicans, will change his party designation to Democrat. Then, maybe all of you will crawl back into the holes from whence you came.

Ok, Ok, how about remembering Paul Patton and Tina Conner in the back seat of a State Police car getting it on to the tunes of "Your Cheatin' Heart" or better yet, how about a little cigar and music to the tune of Bill and Monica in the Oval Room of the White House?? Depraved, you ask?? Take a good look at your own party before you start slinging arrows at another.
